Kapil Sharma is a star, but I want Krushna to be a superstar...

Arti Singh is back on television after a break of 2 years with Waaris – a show that deals with the concept of ‘Bachcha Posh’ (where a girl child is raised as a boy). Tired of getting bhabhi roles, the actress had been waiting for the right opportunity and she feels the wait has been worth it. SpotboyE.com caught up with Arti who opened up about her new show, being friends with her ex, and brother Krushna Abhishek. Excerpts:

Waaris has a unique concept of Bachcha Posh. How has the experience been so far?
It has been tiring as a lot of hard work is involved. Amba (her character in the show) has led a very guarded life so far and it comes to standstill when her husband suddenly dies. Waaris has a very bold subject. I’m lucky to do this show and spread the message that a girl can be an heir too.

After 2014, you only did Comedy Classes and Comedy Nights Bachao, and stayed away from serials. Why this break?
I did episodics because I wanted a good role. I had gone into the category of playing a bhabhi. I didn’t want to do that anymore. I had been offered many shows in the last 2 years, but none of them were lead characters.

Did your brother Krushna Abhishek ever approach you for Comedy Nights Live?
No, that is his show and he wanted me to be known as Arti Singh, not as Krushna’s sister.

What is Krushna’s take on his ongoing rivalry with Kapil Sharma?
It doesn’t matter to him at all. He said, “Main Bhojpuri films se yahan pahuch gaya, aage bhi kar lunga with my hard work.” I want Kapil to be a star, but I want my brother to be a superstar.

Back to Waaris. Like most of your previous shows, you play a village girl here too. You’ve never portrayed a bold and sexy character...
I used to wear sexy clothes in the comedy shows. But mostly, Indian television audience likes ‘ghar ki ladki’ type of characters. So I stick to that. But the character of Amba is very tough and a satisfying role. I know I am a good actor and capable of doing more. I want to be known as one of the best actresses in the industry. As far as my sexy avatar is concerned, you can see that at award functions.

Coming to your personal life, are you in touch with Ayaz Khan after your split?
Yeah, on and off. We broke up mutually and he is still a friend. There is no bitterness. He is getting married and I’m happy for him.

Have you given a thought to marriage?
I always wanted to get married. At 21, getting married was my only ambition. I believe I’ll be a good bahu and a good wife because I am a very loving person. I can take care of a family.

So are your parents looking for a match?
Yes. A few days back, I called Krushna and told him to find me a match. He told me not to get married now as my show is doing well. But then I made him understand saying, “Once you find me a guy, I will spend time getting to know him, then get engaged and then finally get married. So all this will take a lot of time. At least, find the guy first!” Mujhe to koi ladka nahi mil raha. I am just waiting to get married.

Will you continue working after getting married?
Honestly, I wouldn’t. But if I have to, I will do those weekend shows which will require only 2-3 days of shoot. I want to enjoy my married life.
